Secondary to the recent celebration of Talk Like A Pirate Day (but of course not prior to or on Talk Like A Pirate Day because that involves planning beyond my ability) I learned a pirate and politician corollary. 

From 16th century Dutch, a person engaged in unauthorized warfare against a foreign country was called a Vrijbuiter or a Free Booty

In 18th century French, pirates in the West Indies were called flibustier or freebooters and in 19th century Spanish the term filibustero described American adventures who incited revolution in Latin America. 

Filibuster became the term for tactics used to delay congressional proceedings.
