Remember the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia?
Me either . . .
with the exception of the social and infrastructure debacle . . .
because that was ethnocentrically hilarious.
Now that the counters of beans have actually counted the beans, some interesting issues have become apparent and . . .
when I say interesting I mean comparatively the financial management in Greece looks reasonable and well managed.
The Olympics were initially budgeted at $12 billion and ended up costing $51 billion.
Russia is hosting the World Cup in 2018 and planners had anticipated that a $8 billion dollar rail system would be in place.
Want to guess if it is in place and functioning?
But the best Sochi event?
US bobsledder Johnny Quinn was trapped in a bathroom when the door stuck. The result?
...With
no phone to call for help, I used my bobsled push training to break out. #SochiJailBreak
But that isn't the end of it!
Later Quinn and teammate Nick
Cunningham were trapped in an elevator and had to be rescued.
Coincidence or a sinister Red Peril plot to remove US competitors? You decide.
