I didn’t know this was an option!! All that time in class taking notes when I could have been making a souffle or caramelizing sugar on a creme brûlée or churning my own butter.

“True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.” Kurt Vonnegut

Every now and then, in college, I would go through a period of optimism and take an early morning class. And one week into the semester I would remember why I didn’t take early morning classes.

“I’ve never let my school interfere with my education.” Mark Twain

On my mom’s side, there was a house full of intellects who were also somewhat obsessive and compulsive.  The modus operandi was starting a project in the afternoon and hopefully wrapping it up by 2 or 3 in the morning. (A combination of crafts and science is a favorite.)

“Thanks to my solid academic training, today I can write hundreds of words on virtually any topic without possessing a shred of information, which is how I got a good job in journalism.” Dave Barry

Rolling out of bed at oh-dark-thirty after two or three  hours of sleep, has never been something I aspired to.  Learning to be clandestine while cooking, sleeping or forging ornate jewelry are excellent skills.

There is definitely a market for such ability because work is like one extra long, repetitive lecture and offering eggs Benedict to coworkers without detection could lead to some awesome networking opportunities.
