Manhandled in Pakistan

I hope everyone knows who Malala Yousafzai is.

I have to admit I vaguely knew who she was and then I watched a brief interview.  She really is amazing.

She lived in Pakistan in an area that was controlled by the Taliban. When she was eleven years old, she had a blog under a pseudonym that was published through the BBC.  She discussed life under Taliban rule and advocated for girls to have an educational opportunity.

She became more outspoken and verbal, until at age 15, she was shot in the head by the Taliban while she rode the school bus. She was taken to England for emergency care.
She had a remarkable recovery and she has become the figurehead in both denouncing the Taliban and in promoting global education for girls. The Taliban continues to make death threats.  The irony being, if they hadn’t shot her she would not have such a broad platform to discuss the Taliban’s atrocities.

She is only 16 years old! To put it in perspective, at 16 I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find my classes in High School, that no one would ask me out and that I wouldn’t be able to pass the drivers' test.

The comparison of our lives is a little embarrassing!
