When we were little kids my mom ordered each of us rolls of satin ribbon with our name printed on them. She would cut sections of the ribbon and then sew our names into coats, mittens, hats, whatever. A few years ago, my brother misplaced a series of jackets. His wife found his roll of ribbon and sewed his name into most of his apparel.
