The Public School Offensive

I recently watched a documentary about the current Texas State School Board.  Yes, CURRENT, not pre Scopes Monkey Trial, not mid Spanish Inquisition, not Puritan via Mayflower, put you in stocks for not going to church. I bet you can’t imagine the topic of conversation.  It has to do with Biology class and fossils and the age of the earth. . .

You know what’s coming, right?

I’ve compiled a little quiz, to help us identify the sources of corruption and ultimately self-annihilation of Our Nation’s school-aged youth.

Jerry Falwell had things managed for the pre-school kids. Good call outing that damn Tinky Winky Teletubbie!

So, let us say your kid came home from school with 2 permission slips, one about a class teaching Gay rights and one about a class teaching Evolution. Which topic would cause you to jump on your broom, call your entourage of flying monkeys and make a grand entrance in the Great and Powerful Principal’s office?

Undecided? Let me present some facts, figures, quotes and possibly diagrams to help clear things up.

You gonna believe what I tell you or own lying eyes?

“It vexes me when they would constrain science by the authority of the Scriptures, and yet do not consider themselves bound to answer reason and experiment.”  - Galileo Galilei

"What really happened to Galileo? The Church is not anti-scientific. (What the critics) fail to realize is that the judges who presided over Galileo's case where not the only people who held to a geocentric view of the universe." - Catholic Answer to explain and defend the faith.

So torture, banishment and death are a go, as long as the majority of a population and the ruling powers are in disagreement with the accused supposition? (Well obviously! Cheney and water boarding.  Need I say more?)

What about OUR right to call them fairies names?
“What is clear is that sodomites have infiltrated every level of government, education and society and are now demanding legitimization of their sinful lifestyle. They have even successfully changed the terms used to describe them from "faggot," "girlie-boy," and "queer" to more positive terms like "gay," and "alternative lifestyle."  Jeremiah Project

Oh that one hurts! Clearly political correctness has circumvented the, “Your mom wears combat boots” commandment. That leaves the Golden Rule but who had any fun treating others with respect?

Televangelists have their own definition of “Proof”, “Logic” and “Scientific Method.”

“Evolution is a bankrupt speculative philosophy, not a scientific fact. Only a spiritually bankrupt society could ever believe it. ... Only atheists could accept this Satanic theory.” Jimmy Swaggart

“If we are going to teach creation science as an alternative to evolution, then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction.” Judith Hayes

My favorite example of proof? The chairman of the Texas School Board has a diagram of Noah’s Ark illustrating how a pair of every animal (including the dinosaurs) could fit on the Ark and could be floated to safety.

However, the chairman has a major flaw in his presentation of proof. Not authenticating the diagram because I’m pretty sure Noah used printed graph paper, scotch tape and colored markers to work out his ideas.  Not the process of collecting a pair of all the animals because, if you will recall, the earth was flat in those days so some diligence in walking and a few lengths of rope and there you go. The problem is the dinosaurs. If they came off the ark as did all the other animals and all the other animals are roaming around, so where the hell are they?  The gays did something to them? Called them names? What happened!?!

“Did Noah put two of every animal in the world on the boat? No! How can I be so sure? Try it!” Eddie Izzard

Which naturally brings us to Career Day as reported upon by  Miss Anita B.

“As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children.”  Anita Bryant, 1977

Ah, Anita, too smart to be outfoxed by a bunch of cream puffs. It’s funny though because I don’t remember a “How to Become Gay” booth at the high school occupation fair. I also don't remember a "Build a Big Damn Boat" booth.

You do see the dangers of an open discussion, right? At any given time, when introduced to the concept, a kid could start thinking, “I didn’t know THAT was an option? Forget Susie, I think I'll see if Steve is available. He might even have a few of those dinosaurs left. We could get started on a boat!"

Religious Zeal Versus Tedious Data Analysis and Presentation . . . What to choose!!

"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science." Charles Darwin

This is partially the fault of the reformation.  They should have NEVER translated the Bible out of Latin.  Giving the congregation a chance to understand what is read is NOT a good idea.

The Last Argument!

Call me a radical or a commie, but I’m thinking one societal goal should be less suicides. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are two to three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts.

Some opponents think homosexuality should be off-limits (in public school), since it might offend certain students' sensibilities. All the more reason why California should make this bill a reality — so we don't raise another generation of ignorant jerks." The Week. ( I would have said arrogant assholes but we can go with the lesser term.)

“It always seemed to me a bit pointless to disapprove of homosexuality.  It's like disapproving of rain.” Francis Maude
(As does it seem to disbelieve in science. I don't think evolution is going wait on the Texas School Board vote.)

And, despite what some of the fringe, psychobabble treatment groups claim, disapproval, aversion therapy, threats of damnation and being beaten to a pulp, have not changed sexual orientation just self-esteem and well-being.

So education on evolution or education on homosexuality? How about education on how to critically examining something beyond your experience and then make an intelligent decision?

I'm going to go look for that damn dino ark myself. I'm sure Adam and Steve and the dinosaurs are they key to this whole issue.
