Would You Like a Little Church with Your State?

Nothing brings out the fanatic in people like discussing religion, unless it is discussing politics. So discussing the role of religion in politics should make everyone’s head burst into flames. At the risk of causing people to spontaneously combust, here are a few bit from the televangelists.
(The Televangelist’s Holy Trinity: In the name of Franklin, Grant and Jackson. Amen.)
Nothing says meek and humble and servant of the Lord like a multi-million dollar television franchise.
(The Word of Christ: Surprisingly indistinguishable from one’s own personal opinions.)
The Supreme Court of the United States is an institution damned by God Almighty. - Jimmy Swaggart. (And you have this on first-hand knowledge when you talk to the Almighty over breakfast?)
(Each in the eyes of the other is forever getting too big for its britches.)
The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country. - Jerry Falwell. Ah, you’ve discovered the true motivation of most of the American citizens. Not impartiality, tolerance or freedom but just straight out wickedness.
(Organized Religion: Selling you something that’s been free since the dawn of time.)
The mission of the Christian Coalition is simple. It is to mobilize Christians -- one precinct at a time, one community at a time -- until once again we are the head and not the tail, and at the top rather than the bottom of our political system. - Pat Robertson. Because religious nuts in charge of government has worked out well in the past, that is if you don’t mind a little bonfire of heretics now and then.
(Science flys you to the moon. Religion flys you into buildings.)
The framers of our Constitution meant we were to have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.- Billy Graham. And I am so grateful that you are here to interpret such things for us, based, not at all, on any self-promoting motivation.
