Your Russians Are Missing

The 1908 Olympics, held in London, was missing something for 12 days.

Nikolai Panin, 1908 Summer Olympics Figure Skating Gold.
The Winter Olympics were not a separate event until 1924.

The Russian Olympic team arrived late, 12 days late. They were able to compete in a few events but most events were completed.

At that time, being an Eastern Orthodox country, the Russians refused to change from the Julian calendar to the Catholic formulated Gregorian calendar. Consequently, they were 12 days behind the UK.

Hungarian Weisz Richárd
became super heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler Olympic champion
by beating Russian Alexander Petrov.

Russia made the change after the Bolsheviks took over.
