Beyond EMO?

For those of you unlucky enough to NOT have a self-described, Emo teen, well you just don’t know what you are missing . . .

Unless you remember the Punk bands which spawned the Goths . . .

and I remember both the Punks and the Goths because there is something to be said about guys with eyeliner. Oh don't judge.

(Steampunk is a little diversionary path we don’t need to go down.)

Well Emo (short for emotionally disturbed or emotive hardcore) are the next rung in the no-one-understands-me, step ladder of adolescence.

The common thread? The unwavering belief that adolescent despair and rebellion is unique to them.

A quick trip to Elizabethan England and some words from the Bard about his poster boy of despair.

“To die, to sleep -
To sleep, perchance to dream - ay, there's the rub,
For in this sleep of death what dreams may come...”

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

“My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: Words without thoughts never to heaven go.”

“When sorrows come, they come not single spies. But in battalions!”
