Numerical Manipulation

Math was my most difficult subject and it wasn’t like math stayed contained in one area of academics.  All of the “weed out” classes required a grasp on numerical manipulation.

The worst were story problems, especially in physics.

John is on a train to Bangladesh.  Emma is standing on the train platform with a frog in her purse. Hector is in a rocket ship headed to the moon to start the Newt Gingrich lunar colonies. Which of these are cousins? Show your work.

I ended up with adequate grades and no practical, much less fundamental, physics knowledge.

So now when my 8th grad kid asks for math help, I am astounded at how little I retained.
