The Iron Lady

Margaret Thatcher is the only women ever to be elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and was also the longest-serving Prime Minister. Per the knower of all things (Wikipeidia), “A Soviet journalist nicknamed her the Iron Lady, which became associated with her uncompromising politics and leadership style.”
My big fat opinion about women and politics and equality and all of that stuff. I grew up in a house where the importance of female intelligence, education and ability to be self-supporting was combined with a mix of patriarchal religion and the divine expectation of being a stay at home mom. No wonder I had some issues with ambiguity and anxiety! (Here was a long tangent in where I expounded on the historical, personal and current aspects of how my attitude has been altered and wherein there were minimal amusing aspects.)
First, you are welcome for the tangent redirection and second, in my personal and professional experience, more women than not (for a whole litany of reasons) end up financially supporting themselves and their kids. If you’re not able or willing to be a serial trophy wife (said with a finger to the puckered lips in a ridicule of the sexy Lolita pout) having the opportunity to obtain an education and equal pay for equal work becomes pretty damn important.
I have no desire to ever be in politics but am I ever grateful that some women do!
“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.” Margaret Thatcher
“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” Margaret Thatcher
“If you want to cut your own throat, don't come to me for a bandage.” Margaret Thatcher
“This lady is not for turning.” Margaret Thatcher
