In the Heat of the Night

Sidney Poitier is the man! If you haven’t seen any of his movies from the 60’s or 70’s you’ve got to watch at least one! He is an amazing actor and he was the first African American to win an academy award. He won for Lilies of the Valley.
My favorite of his is “In the Heat of the Night.” The movie won best picture in 1967. It is a murder mystery set in the deep South where Sidney’s character happens to be visiting his mother. Just as a mystery, it is well written and surprising but then layered on is the prejudice of the south and a set of great characters. I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
I never had an occasion to question color, therefore, I only saw myself as what I was... a human being. - Sidney Poitier
I had chosen to use my work as a reflection of my values. - Sidney Poitier
I decided in my life that I would do nothing that did not reflect positively on my father's life. - Sidney Poitier
